He was raised by his grandmother until age eight, at the age of ten he moved with his mother to various locations in California, he was quickly drawn into the gang culture of the area, and after leaving home at age 13, he lived on the streets as a member of the Colton City Crips and made his commercial recording debut as a rapper in 1998 on the album Migrate Adapt or Die by the Zoo Crew. Several years later he made his solo album debut with The Jackal (2003). In 2006 he was signed to G-Unit Records thanks in part to his affiliation with labelmates Mobb Deep, with whom he shared management but little came of the association besides publicity and prestige.
