He was mostly raised by his single mother in Waterloo, Iowa, a place described by Taylor as a “hole in the ground with buildings around it”. He is of German and Native American descent on his father’s side, and Dutch and Irish on his mother’s side. In 1979, Taylor and his mother saw the sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Before the series, there was a trailer for the 1978 horror film Halloween. At the age of fifteen, Taylor became a drug addict. He later on moved to his grandmother’s house after she took his legal custody. At age 18, the singer cum musician made an unsuccessful suicide attempt. He met his father for the first time at the age of 30.
He along with some of his friends, formed the hard rock band Stone Sour and recorded a demo album in 1993. In the year 1997, the musician cum singer was approached by another band, Slipknot, due to which he abandoned Stone Sour for a short duration of time. Corey Taylor joined Slipknot as its 6th member after being invited by Mick Thomson, Shawn Crahan and Joey Jordison to join them.
