Craig Kilborn’s father’s name is Hiram Kilborn, an insurance executive, and his mother’s name is Shirley Kilborn, a schoolteacher. When he was four years old, he and his family moved to Hastings, Minnesota, where he was raised.
Craig Kilborn studied at Hastings High School. Following his graduation, he earned a scholarship to play for Montana State University. He eventually graduated from the university with dual bachelor’s degrees in media and theater arts in 1984.
Career
Craig Kilborn started his television career as the sports anchor for KCBA, Monterey County’s Fox affiliate in Salinas. After several small jobs, he worked as the anchor of ‘ESPN SportsCenter’ from 1993 to 1996. After this, he was selected by ‘Worldwide Pants’ to replace Tom Snyder as the host of ‘The Late Late Show.’ On December 17, 1998, he hosted the final episode of the show, ending a 386-episode tenure.
In 2003, Kilborn was cast as Mark, the philandering partner of Ellen Pompeo’s character in the flick ‘Old School’. He played Jerry in ‘The Benchwarmers’ (2006), a sports comedy movie about three “nerds” who spend most of their childhood longing to play sports but never get the chance. On June 28, 2010, Kilborn returned to television after six years off the air with his new show ‘The Kilborn File’ which debuted on selected Fox stations. ‘The Kilborn File’ aired for a six-week test run but was not well received. He got the opportunity to play a villain in an episode of ‘Chuck’. He next served as a guest host of ‘The Artie Lange Show.
On August 6, 2015, Kilborn had a cameo on ‘The Daily Show as a part of Jon Stewart’s final episode. A year later, he featured in a television commercial for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. In a 2020 interview with The Athletic, Kilborn reflected on his time on The Daily Show, stating that he “had a blast” doing the show and that he was “living in New York City, hosting a comedy show, and sipping martinis at the illustrious 21 Club.” He also said he “wasn’t hired at Comedy Central to do a politics-heavy show, and he “would never do one — I have no interest.”
