    Bio And Wiki

Cyndi Lauper is one of the most famous and trending Singer-Songwriter in whole world right now. Cyndi Lauper was born on June 22, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, United States. She was born as Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper, but best known as Cyndi Lauper.

    Family, Childhood, and Education

Her father's name is Fred Lauper and mother's name is Catrine. She was born as the middle child to the Catholic parents Fred and Catrine Lauper. When she was just five years, her parents separated and got a divorce. She has two siblings; older sister Ellen and younger brother Fred.

She grew up in Ozone Park while listening to the songs of ‘The Beatles’ and ‘Judy Garland’. From an early age, she built interest in singing and composing. So, by the age of twelve, she started to compose and play an acoustic guitar given by her sister. Later on by the help of a friend she spelled her name ‘Cyndi’ instead of ‘Cindy’. Due to her eccentric clothing and hair coloring, her classmates bullied her and even threw stones at her.

She attended Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York City, United States but she was later expelled. Later on, after obtaining her GED, she attended Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont, United States.

    Career

In the early 1970s she performed with a number of bands. In 1974, while performing Kiki Dee’s ‘I Got the Music in Me’ at a venue in Queens, her voice started to fail when she hit the high notes for the first time. By 1977, her vocal cords were severely damaged, with the doctors telling her she that would never sing again. However, after working with voice coach Katie Agresta, she got back her voice.

Eventually she became a founding member of the band ‘Blue Angel’ which she formed with saxophone player John Turi. Besides her and Turi, the other members of ‘Blue Angel’ were Arthur "Rockin' A" Neilson (guitar), Lee Brovitz (bass guitar), and Johnny Morelli (drums). They released their first and only album, the self-titled ‘Blue Angel’ in 1980. While it got rave reviews, it performed poorly on the charts and the group subsequently split.
Following the band’s breakup, Lauper went on to pursue a successful solo career. She has released 11 albums to date. They are: ‘She's So Unusual’ (1983), ‘True Colors’ (1986), ‘A Night to Remember’ (1989), ‘Hat Full of Stars’ (1993), ‘Sisters of Avalon’ (1996), ‘Merry Christmas ... Have a Nice Life’ (1998), ‘At Last’ (2003), ‘Shine’ (2004), ‘Bring Ya to the Brink’ (2008), ‘Memphis Blues’ (2010), and ‘Detour’ (2016). She more than anyone, personifies the defiance, the eccentricity, the nihilism, and even the naivety generally associated with punk music. This personality, which exists in perfect dichotomy with her childish voice, makes her an ideal representative of her generation, just like Madonna.

She has also appeared in multiple films and television shows throughout her career, be as herself or portraying a character. She was part of several World Wrestling Federation's 'Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection' events and was present at WrestleMania I (1985). She played Marianne Lugasso in NBC’s sitcom ‘Mad About You’ (1992-99), co-starred with Christopher Walken in the crime-drama film ‘The Opportunists’ (2000), and competed in the season 3 of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ (2009), coming sixth. In 2012, she wrote the music and the lyrics for Harvey Fierstein’s Broadway musical ‘Kinky Boots.

She album ‘She's So Unusual’ is listed among Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
