Eric LeGrand was paralyzed playing defense for special teams on a kickoff return late in the fourth quarter of an NCAA game against Army. The stadium fell silent while the extent of his injuries was realized right before their eyes. LeGrand left the field on a stretcher, unable to move under his own power.
Eric J. LeGrand is a former American football defensive tackle who played college football at Rutgers. He became paralyzed while making a tackle in an October 2010 game, but has since regained movement in his shoulders and sensation throughout his body. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him to a symbolic contract as an undrafted free agent in May 2012. In 2017, LeGrand was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as the third recipient of the Warrior Award.
