    He is the son of Winston, a Sierra Leonean man who worked at the Ford Dagenham plant, and Eve, a Ghanaian woman. He attended a school in Canning Town but, he left his school during the year of 1988 and became a member of National Youth Music Theatre. He participated in several plays and theatre productions organized by his school. He also learned how to be a DJ from his uncle who is a professional wedding DJ at the time.

    Leaving school in 1988, Idris earned a spot in the National Youth Music Theatre. While he was there, he appeared in the British TV programs such as Crimewatch and The Boot Street Band. He also started doing some odd jobs as well as working as a DJ in nightclubs while looking for acting opportunities in the British movie industry.

    His first acting role was in Crimewatch murder reconstructions and in 1994 he appeared in a BBC children’s drama called The Boot Street Band.
