New Jersey Nets drafted him in the first round in 1980. He played for them at the center position till 1988. Afterward, he also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks. He scored a huge number of points during his career. He is known for his free throw shooting skills. By the end of his career, he has completed 10,953 points, 6,480 rebounds, and 1203 assists. Presently, he works as the sports analyst for CBS for college basketball.
In 2002, Gminski was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary men’s basketball team as one of the 50 greatest players in Atlantic Coast Conference history. As of March 28, 2010, he was tied for sixth-most career double-figure scoring games at Duke with Grant Hill, behind Jon Scheyer.
