His birth name is Craig ‘Speedy’ Claxton. There is no information on his parents. He has a sister Lisa and a brother Michael, both of them are also basketball players.
He studied at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York, and attended Hofstra University. On 29 January 2011, his name was inducted into the Hofstra Hall of Fame.
Career
He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2000 NBA draft. He signed a four-year contract worth $4.68 million with the 76er but he opted out from his contract in the fourth year and became a free agent. During his rookie period, he missed most of his match for the 76ers due to his knee injury. He was traded to San Antonio Spurs in 2002 where he played the 2003 championship as a reserve backing up Tony Parker. In 2003, he signed a three-year contract worth $10 million with the Golden State Warriors and at the end of his contract tenure, he was traded to New Orleans Hornets. On 12 July 2006, he signed a four-year contract worth $25 million with Atlanta Hawks. On 12 April 2009, he signed with Houston Rockets but soon he was traded to Washington Wizards on 25 June 2009. On 6 February 2010, Claxton was released from the team and he retired from playing basketball professionally. Afterward, he served as a college scout with the Golden State Warriors. Then in 2013, he joined Hofstra University as a coach and has been engaged with the team.
