    Steve Bruce FAQs

Is Steve Bruce a United legend?

Steve Bruce was once given a hilarious gift by Sir Alex Ferguson when he was leaving Manchester United. It’s easy to forget that Steve Bruce was once a top defender at Manchester United, especially now that he’s taken charge of over 1,000 games as a manager.

Has Steve Bruce won anything as a manager?

He won seven major trophies at Old Trafford – three championships, two FA Cups, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup. Bruce also claimed the distinction of being the first English player of the 20th century to captain a team to the double when United pulled off the feat in 1994.

How much is Steve Bruce paid?

It had been estimated that Bruce was earning a base salary of £2.75 million/year equating to £57,000 a week. When the Northumberland-born manager started at Newcastle, he became the worst-paid Premier League manager, earning £1 million-a-year compared to the £6 million that his predecessor, Rafael Benitez earned.

Is Steve Bruce a good manager?

Two each came at Birmingham and Hull. If Bruce the manager is not indelibly associated with any one club, he may rank as Hull’s greatest ever manager (partly because he steered them to their only FA Cup final) and Birmingham’s best in half a century, though he was also relegated with each and quit both clubs.

Stephen Roger Bruce is an English professional football manager and former player who is currently manager of Aston Villa. Born in Corbridge, Northumberland, he was a promising schoolboy footballer but was rejected by several professional clubs. He was on the verge of quitting the game altogether when he was offered a trial with Gillingham. Bruce was offered an apprenticeship and went on to play more than 200 games for the club before joining Norwich City in 1984, winning the Football League Cup in 1985. In 1987, he moved to Manchester United, with whom he achieved great success, winning twelve trophies including three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one Football League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. He also became the first English player of the 20th century to captain a team to the Double. Despite his success on the field, he was never selected to play for the England national team. Commentators and contemporaries have described him as one of the best English players of the 1980s and 1990s never to play for his country at full international level.
