Ja Morant started playing basketball when he was a kid and started his career by participating in the AAU circuit. On November 10, 2017, he made his college team debut. He had 7 points and 11 assists in his first game. Similarly, he set a season-high with 23 points against Southeast Missouri State University on February 1, 2018. His exceptional dribbling talents have impressed both his teammates and opponents. In 2019, he was also named the First team All-American as a sophomore and was also in the top 25 watch list for John R Wooden Award. He was named the OVA player of the year by end of the season and went on with the NBA draft. Jamel was drafted in 2019 in the Memphis Grizzlers team as the number 2 pick. He was also named the NBA Rookie of the year in 2020 and NBA All-Rookie First team honor for his amazing form in the rookie season of 2019-20. On July 6, 2022, Morant signed a five-year extension with the Grizzlies. He set the Grizzlies franchise mark for most points scored through the first two games of a season (83). On November 27, Morant put up his fifth career triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists in a 127–123 win over the New York Knicks.
