Jerry began his broadcasting career at KMOL-TV in San Antonio, Texas. Furthermore, he has also worked with radio stations such as WMAQ-AM and WLS-AM as a weather reporter. His works have been appreciated by his fans and people all around the world. After working at Chicago’s NBC affiliate, WMAQ-TV, Jerry moved to ABC7 in August 1984. Currently, he is the chief meteorologist for WLS-TV in Chicago. Apart from that, Chicago Tribune has defined him as “one of their favorite weathermen”.
On December 20, 2017, ABC 7 Chicago announced that Taft would retire in January 2018. Taft’s last day on air, after forecasting the weather on Chicago television for 42 years, was Friday, January 19, 2018.
