    His father, Lindberg Styles Mescudi, was a house painter, substitute teacher and World War II Air Force veteran. His mother, Elsie Harriet (Banks), is a middle-school choir teacher at Roxboro Middle School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. His father was of African-American and Mexican-American descent, while his mother is African-American. He has two older brother Domingo Mescudi, Dean Mescudi and one older sister Maisha Mescudi.

    He attended Shaker Heights High School, where he studied for two years. He then got transferred to the Solon High School. He was dismissed from there after he threatened to punch the school principal. However, he did manage to clear his GED exams. Later, he got enrolled at the University of Toledo to study film. However, he dropped out a year later. His subsequent plan to join the U.S. Navy did not pan out because of his juvenile police record.
