Sundar Pichai is an Indian-American business executive. He is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Google Inc. Formerly the Product Chief of Google, Pichai’s current role was announced on 10 August 2015, as part of the restructuring process that made Alphabet Inc. into Google’s parent company, and he assumed the position on 2 October 2015.

Sundar Pichai was born as Pichai Sundararajan on July 12, 1972, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father, Regunatha Pichai, worked as an electrical engineer for the British conglomerate GEC and managed a factory that made electrical components. His mother was a stenographer before having children. Also, he has one brother. He grew up in a middle-class home and was a bright student.
He excelled academically at his school, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, and earned a seat in the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, one of the most prestigious engineering institutions in India. Hence, he did his B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and then won a scholarship to study materials science and semiconductor physics from Stanford University from where he eventually earned his M.S.
Career
Sundar Pichai worked for McKinsey & Company in management consulting during his pre-Google days. Also, he contributed his talents in engineering and product management at Applied Materials. Hence he joined Google in 2004 and is known to have worked on popular products like Toolbar. He also has worked on other products Google Gears and Google Pack, before Chrome was launched. However, the success of the Toolbar helped Pichai pace his career. Google noticed that the toolbar increased the user searches. This eventually led to the start of Google Chrome; Google’s very own browser. He has led product management and also found Google’s client software products such as Google Chrome and Chrome OS. He introduced the Chrome browser to the world. Soon it was followed by Chrome OS in 2009. Pichai came more into the public limelight at Google presentations from 2008 and very soon became a well-known face of Google. He was the Senior VP of Chrome and apps by 2012.It was in 2013 that he became a well-known personality worldwide. In 2015, Sundar was announced to be the new CEO of Google as their well-known leader, Larry Page was retiring from Google to take up the reigns at Alphabet, Inc. their new holding company. Earlier that year, he was announced to be the Product Chief at Google by Larry Page himself. He was also a running contender for the post of Microsoft’s new CEO, a job that ultimately went to Satya Nadella.
